In April 2023, ESU 10 hosted an Adaptive Schools Foundation Seminar for department leadership and the Teaching and Learning Department. Over the past year, the Teaching and Learning Department has been intentional in implementing some of our key learning. At the April 2024 Teaching and Learning Department meeting, we took some time to review a few of the Adaptive Schools concepts to prepare us for our upcoming May 15-16 department data review.
We have implemented several Adaptive Schools concepts into our monthly department meetings. We have adopted The Seven Norms of Collaboration into every meeting. At the beginning of each meeting, we review the norms and prepare ourselves to engage in dialogue,
discussion, and decision making. This past month, each department member completed a self-assessment indicating how well they have followed the norms of collaboration so far this year. Department members then had time to reflect on the norm they have consistently
followed and an area to grow.
I have observed Teaching and Learning Coordinators using Adaptive Schools facilitation strategies with educators during professional learning sessions. During the April 2023 training, we learned well over a hundred strategies to help educators activate, engage, explore, discover, organize, integrate, discuss, decide, dialogue, plan, and self-manage. I have been impressed with the Teaching and Learning Coordinators incorporation of the strategies they have learned to make their professional learning sessions more engaging,
collaborative, and productive. Heather Stukey, Teaching and Learning Coordinator, will be traveling to Colorado in June 2024 to attend an Advanced Adaptive Schools Seminar. I
look forward to learning from her and having her incorporate this additional learning into our department meetings.
