Role models inspire others to attain gains, are giving and caring to others. That is definitely one of the legacies that Patrice Feller is leaving ESU10. She has served ESU10 for 19 years, most recently as the MTSS Facilitator/Coach the past 6 years. She has provided others with the information she has learned along the way and leading by example.

Patrice will be retiring at the end of her current contract (June 2021). We wanted to celebrate her by finding out what she plans to do after retirement.

Patrice’s plans for retirement: “Be available to my family.”

When asked, what her favorite memory from ESU10, Patrice responded: “Thinking of the people I've worked with and the "family feel" of this organization.”

Patrice has built strong relationships. That is just another characteristic of hers.

When asked what her biggest success was, she wrote:

“Even though I've been the MTSS Facilitator for only 6 years, I have been involved in promoting the multi-tiered system of supports in schools for at least the past 15 years, in the forms of RTI, school improvement, interventions and specialized instruction (Special Ed), family engagement, and community services.”

Honoring Patrice was the purpose of writing this article. I knew that with just one person’s perspective that it might not deliver the true impact that Patrice has had on ESU10, our schools, staff, and students. That is why I reached out to a colleague that works closely with her. Here is what she had to say about Patrice:

"Leadership is about making others better as a result of your presence and making sure that impact lasts in your absence." Brene Brown

“This leadership quote reminds me of my friend and colleague, Patrice Feller. Her 19 years of hard work and dedication to serving the districts of ESU10 has been nothing less than admirable. Patrice's vision for improving student achievement through the implementation of a strong MTSS framework in school districts has helped to pave the way for not only ESU10 but for educators across the state. Her knowledge and expertise will be missed by many; however, the work will carry on as she has helped to build others capacity in the MTSS arena. I feel very blessed to have had the opportunity to work with and learn from this outstanding educator. I wish her all the best in her next chapter! Enjoy your retirement, you've earned it!” - Dallas Lewandowski

As you can see, Patrice is leaving a legacy and she taught others to continue the work in helping students achieve more from their academic experience.

When given the opportunity to address her colleagues, Patrice said,

“Thank you all for trusting in me to support educators and students. I will miss learning and growing professionally. I hope I've made a difference, but I also realize that I have been one small piece of the picture in what we need to do for students. Collectively, we make the greatest difference, so carry on, ESU 10!”

Do you see a theme here? Dallas chose the best quote to sum Patrice up. The quote talked about the “result of your presence and making sure that impact lasts in your absence” and Patrice chose to say, “carry on”. ESU10 will go forth, but it is because of people like you, Patrice, that laid the groundwork and served as a great role model.

Patrice, you will be missed! We wish you the very best in your retirement. Thank you for your dedication and work.
