A Message From Dr. Bell

November 13, 2017
Autumn has been absolutely beautiful in ESU 10 country this year. The sunrises have been spectacular enough for even this “not a morning person” to enjoy them. The sudden temperature drop and the associated aching knees remind me that winter is on the way. It really hits hard once the clock gets turned back on November 5th and I start driving home into the sunset. The only silver lining, and all of you in the same age range as me understand, is that you get an extra hour of life to enjoy. Every minute counts!

The productive use of time is one of those constant themes here at ESU 10 as we “partner with stakeholders to meet changing needs through professional expertise in providing services, learning opportunities and support.” We continually strive to meet all identified needs in an effective and efficient manner. Numerous discussions have taken place on how to best serve all of you. We have data that indicates ESU 10 staff is doing much more work in school districts with less meetings held here in Kearney. Of course, we will always have major meetings with outside experts held here to get the best value with the greatest results.

This would be a great juncture to remind all of you that ESU 10 staff members are all consistently involved in our Continuous Improvement Process. We continue to operate with four Priority Area Committees. These committees work to provide professional, knowledgeable, responsive staff; to strengthen and develop customized products and services; to bridge gaps of time and distance through maximum utilization of resources; and, to assist our customers in identifying and achieving their goals. Leadership has recently changed in these committees but the work has not lost a beat. Our focus really is on serving you!

Speaking of changing leadership, The ESU 10 Board of Directors has accepted my retirement request effective Friday, June 29, 2018 at 4 PM. Don’t call at 4:01 because no one will be answering the phone! The search has begun to find a replacement that will take this organization to its next level of excellence. Whoever fills the job will work for a fabulous organization staffed by quality people. You will find application information under the ‘About Us’ tab in the ESU 10 webpage. It has been a great twenty-four year run that has been filled with wonderful memories.

Enough of the nostalgia trip because time is short and we still have much to accomplish this year. Please contact any ESU 10 staff member if you have needs or suggestions to improve the products and services offered at ESU 10.

To help me focus on this stretch run I turned to a respected resource on my office bookshelf. That would of course be Uncle John’s Bathroom Reader Colossal Collection of “Quotable” Quotes. On the last page of the book, I find that Marianne Williamson wrote, “Creating the world we want is a much more subtle but more powerful mode of operation than destroying the one we don’t want.”

Time to keep creating….
