A Message From Dr. Bell

March 09, 2015
Things are really looking great. If March comes in like a lion and leaves like a lamb, our spring this year should be awesome. My only question is whether the next blizzard will come during the girls or boys state basketball championships this year.

During February, ESU 10 staff members met with representatives of six member school districts. Many thanks go to the fine leaders in Elba, Pleasanton, Centura, SEM, Kearney, and Loup City. Meetings were held either over the distance learning system or face-to-face. Written reports from these sessions will be shared with the entire ESU 10 staff in hopes of better meeting specific school district needs. This also drives the budget process here at ESU 10 as we try to align all resources with the identified needs. We will be meeting with all 33 public school districts and as many non-public as possible before we complete this task on April 30th.

Now comes the hard part of the equation. It brings to my mind an old anonymous saying that ideas are a dime a dozen. People who put them into action are priceless. Fortunately for me, I am surrounded by priceless people who continuously “partner with our customers to meet changing needs through professional expertise, training, and support”. This is one of the parts of the job that people really seem to enjoy around here. It’s like doing a giant jigsaw puzzle. They keep looking for the right pieces to make everything fit into a beautiful product.

With that mindset in place it’s time to move forward. I have a constant reminder on my desk that says that good things happen when you make sure that good things happen. The road isn’t always easy but the results sure are satisfying.

I’ll leave you with a motivational quote this month from William Faulkner. If you don’t recognize the name please contact your local American literature teacher. He said, “Always dream and shoot higher than you know you can do.  Don’t bother just to be better than your contemporaries or predecessors. Try to be better than yourself.”
