SEM Marathon in a Month

June 03, 2011

The staff of Sumner-Eddyville-Miller Schools was recently challenged to run, bike, or walk a Marathon in a Month.  That meant each staff member that signed up would have to put in 26.2 miles in 30 days.  The incentive given to the staff was a day of wearing their workout clothes to school at the completion of the month.  As the challenge came to an end, the administration graciously decided to purchase t-shirts for each staff member that completed the challenge.  The SEM Wellness Council would like to thank each staff member that signed up and those that completed the marathon.  We appreciate the example you set for students to get out and be active!

Four staff members from SEM completed actual half-marathons (13.1 miles) on Sunday, May 1st.  These staff members wore the medals they received for completing their half-marathons the day that staff wore their SEM Marathon in a Month t-shirts.  Mrs. Mandy Bosak and Mrs. Lacey Bowder ran the Lincoln Half-Marathon and Mrs. Laurie Smith and Mr. Scott Franzen ran the Oklahoma City Bombing Memorial Half-Marathon.  The SEM Wellness Council would also like to express our appreciation to each of these staff members for their example to students to not only get up and get active but in setting a fitness goal and achieving it.
