Meet John Street, not to be confused with John Stritt

ESU 10 welcomes John Street, the new Director of Special Education to our staff. We want you to become familiar with John and save you from miscommunications when calling John Stritt, our Distance Education Director. This gives you a little background on both directors and explains why we are excited to have these two dynamic leaders at ESU 10!

Getting to know John Street

Wife - Colleen, who works as a Special Ed consultant with Grand Island Public Schools
Daughter - Andrea, who is a Special Ed teacher at Omaha Westside Public Schools
Daughter - Kayla, graduating from George Washington University with a Physician Assistant's degree

What was your previous position?
"I was Director of Student Services with Grand Island Public Schools and supervised seven districts."

What attracted you to this job?
"I was definitely attracted to the job because of ESU 10's reputation and the work they do. I hope to continue to challenge myself and others to provide services for students; and support services within ESU 10 districts."

What are some of your hobbies?
Professional baseball would be at the top of the list with the Chicago Cubs being my favorite team. I also enjoy playing softball and basketball on community leagues, and fishing at Johnson's Lake."

Where is the favorite place you have ever lived?
"With my Dad being in the military, we lived three years in Germany while I was in high school. While I was there I had the opportunity to travel to most all of the European countries.

If you had a "bucket list," what would be at the top?
"One of the top things on my bucket list is to go to every major league ball park. I continue to work on it and have gone to more than 30 so far. Another item at the top of the list is to go to China."

Learning More About John Stritt

Wife - Nancy, newly retired from Kearney Public High School where she was a family consumer science teacher.
Son - Brandon, wife Amy, and granddaughters Bella and Teagan who live in McCook. He is a sales rep for GoLite Inc.
Daughter - Jennifer, husband Jason, twin granddaughters Graci and Addie and grandson Riley. The Pierzinas live in Kearney. Jennifer works for the Buckle in loss prevention.
Daughter - Danette lives in Des Moines and works for Wells Fargo in Support of software quality control.
Son - Chad lives in Lincoln and works as a machinest for TMCO.

What is your position at ESU10 and what does it involve?
"I am Director of distance education for ESU 10 and 11. I support sharing of curriculum over video conferencing and assist teachers with video conferencing for virtual field trips. I also assist staff with troubleshooting and network support."

What are you looking forward to this year in your position?
"I am looking forward to maximizing the use of the equipment for learning as a result of a USDA grant that we recently received."

What are some of your hobbies?
"I'd have to say that it would be the two G's, which would be golf and grandkids."

Where is the favorite place you have ever lived?
"That would be Kearney. I went to college at Kearney State and after graduating, my teaching took myself and family to Lexington, Diller, Callaway and Grant. Our goal was to get back to Kearney."

If you had a "bucket list," what would be at the top?
"Well, I really don't have one, but I do follow the flow of my wife's bucket list which includes different places to travel. I'd like to go somewhere overseas."
